Local Duck Hunter Shoots Angel Earl
Wayne and Roscoe Loomis, Greene County duck hunters, were spending last
Saturday the way they always did - in their duck blind at Goose Lake.
They report that it hasn't been a very good year for duck hunting, in
general, but things took a significant turn that morning. Suddenly there
was a flapping of wings and Roscoe unloaded his twelve-gauge toward the
sound. The game landed directly in the center of Goose Lake with a loud
"thud". Earl's hunting dog, Cecil, struggled to get the game out of the mire. After several anxious moments, he brought back a remarkable trophy - an actual angel. "Danged Earl was in that blind prayin' for something," stated Roscoe. "I don't know what, but he must have got his wish." Earl and Roscoe seem nonplussed by their luck. "I don't know if it's legal or not to shoot at an angel," stated Earl. "We all know that they're up there somewhere, so it's only a matter of time until you're going to hit one." We asked them if they were afraid of possible retribution. "What's that?" asked Earl. Roscoe took the angel to the DNR the following morning, hoping to avoid trouble. He was promptly fined $50.00. "Lucky it wasn't a goose," he remarked. "That would have cost me at least $200." Spencer Straight, 12-17-2010 |
